Community Participation Programs

Community Access Program

The Community Access Program supports the individual and family in locating and accessing educational, recreational, and social resources in the community. Please call Intake at 802.488.6500 for more information.

Family Support

Family Support offers a variety of services to the individual and family including case management, respite, and shared parenting supports. These supports are offered to support families in everyday living, during periods of transition, and in times of crisis. Please call Intake at 802.488.6500 for more information.

Flexible Family Funding

The Flexible Family Funding Program provides limited funding to assist families with respite and other supports relevant to caring for their child and family. Please call Intake at 802.488.6500 for more information.

Onion River

The Onion River Day Program provides community support for adults. In addition to community integration opportunities, many participants also receive physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech and language therapy. Please call Intake at 802.488.6500 for more information.

Outdoor Adventure Program

The Outdoor Adventure Program is an inclusive camp experience for individuals ages 7-21 with developmental delays. The program was initiated in 2003 in response to a need for more peer support and camp opportunities for children with disabilities. The primary focus of Outdoor Adventure is to support youth in building friendships, self-confidence, and teamwork skills while engaging in outdoor activities. We currently run four camp sessions during the summer and one during winter break. Resource Center

The Resource Center, located at 31 Swift Street in South Burlington, was developed to provide additional opportunities in the community that clients receiving services through Developmental Services could access to gain new skills and enhance existing skills. The Resource Center offers a variety of fun and educational classes each month which are facilitated by volunteers from the community, HowardCenter employees, and clients. Specialized Community Support

Individuals needing additional specialized support during the day receive individualized services based on their needs and interest. Please call Intake at 802.488.6500 for more information.

Teen Group

Creative Minds is a teen support group that fosters peer relationships, social skills, and self-advocacy for individuals ages 14-22. Participants make new friends while exploring creative outlets such as video production, musical jam sessions, and mural painting. The group meets after school twice a month at a local teen center.
