Accreditation and Memberships

CARF Accreditation

A three-year accreditation — the highest level of accreditation – was awarded by CARF International to HowardCenter for 26 of its programs in 2006. CARF (formerly known as the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) is an independent, not-for-profit accrediting body which establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. CARF’s informational material explains that its “standards are rigorous, so those services that meet them are among the best available.”

Mental Health Corporations of America (MHCA)

HowardCenter is a member of the Mental Health Corporations of America, whose mission and information states, “MHCA is an alliance of select organizations that provide behavioral health services. It is designed to strengthen members’ competitive position, enhance their leadership capabilities and facilitate their strategic networking opportunities. Membership in MHCA is by invitation only. It is the organization’s intent to include in its network only the highest quality behavioral healthcare organizations in the country.”

Behavioral Health Network of Vermont

HowardCenter is a member of Behavioral Health Network of Vermont, Inc. BHN Vermont is a membership organization of community mental health agencies and providers throughout the state of Vermont providing leadership for an integrated, consistently high quality, statewide system of behavioral health services and bringing a formal infrastructure of business support to participating community mental health providers.

Burlington Business Association

HowardCenter is a member of the Burlington Business Association, whose mission is to enhance and promote the economic vitality of Burlington and to assure that the City of Burlington continues as the cultural, social, political, educational, and economic center of northwestern Vermont.
