Prison Policy Seen as Short Circuiting Addiction Recovery

Police and social workers say the state is not doing enough to help prevent  a cycle of addiction, crime and incarceration that starts when people in recovery or seeking treatment get locked up.  “A big part of recovery is helping with stability, and it’s very destabilizing to be taken off your prescribed medication while incarcerated,” said Tom Dalton, with the Safe Recovery program in Burlington.
