This year’s Howard Center “Big Night” fundraising event, to be held on Wednesday, June 3, at the UVM Davis Center, features actress, writer, and artistic associate for the Vermont Stage Company Kathryn Blume. Her talk, “Care Like No One is Watching” will celebrate community connections.

The event also highlights client stories of success. This year attendees will be given updates of some of the success stories presented by clients over the past few years. “Big Night” includes a reception, dinner, silent and live auctions – and some un-auction items. For example, bidders can purchase scholarships to send children and youths with developmental disabilities and/or emotional and behavioral problems to summer and school-break outdoor challenge or art camps. Last year, participants purchased scholarships that enabled more than 125 children to attend camps.

Funds raised from the evening help support programs of Howard Center that rely on community contributions. These include programs that serve children with emotional challenges and their families, individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities including autism, and adults with mental illness and substance abuse problems. Significantly, 89 percent of Howard Center’s budget goes directly to programs.

Gift certificates to local businesses, a Montreal weekend trip, a Concept II rowing machine, and spa treatments are just a sampling of the items that will be available to bid on during the evening.

This year’s Big Night Presenting Sponsor, The Benefits Alliance, heads the line-up of numerous other community supporters. Major Sponsors are Cambridge Alliance and WB Mason. Event Sponsors are: The Allen Agency; Bruegger’s; Chittenden; Dinse,Knapp & McAndrew; Gravel and Shea; Merchants Bank; Mickenberg Dunn Lachs Stewart & Smith PLC; Vermont Auto Detail; and Vermont Tent Company. Supporting sponsors are: Champlain Valley Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, PC; Citizens Bank; Datamart, Inc.; Heritage Flight; McSoley McCoy & Co.; and Rock Point Advisors. Local businesses have generously donated items for both the live and silent auctions.

Tickets cost $80 each. For information on the event or to register or to donate, contact Gail Rosenberg, Development & Public Relations Manger, at or 488-6912.
