About Us

Our mission is to improve the well-being of children, adults, families, and communities.

HowardCenter is a private, non-profit agency located in Burlington, Vermont. We provide comprehensive mental health, developmental disabilities, substance abuse, and child and family treatment services.

We have a long history of providing support services to individuals and families residing in Chittenden County and beyond. The organization began in the 1870s to provide aid to women and children left destitute by the Civil War. In 1994, the Baird Center, Champlain Drug and Alcohol Services, and the Howard Center for Human Services merged into one organization. Today, HowardCenter provides services to approximately 14,000 individuals and families each year in a variety of settings and locations.

We invite you to view this 9-minute video, "A Day in the Life," to more fully understand our organization and the individuals and families we serve.
